Battery Park City is a 92 acre, mixed-use area located at the southwestern tip of lower Manhattan stretching from Chambers Street on the North, West Street to the East, Pier A to the South and the Hudson River to the West. The land, which includes a 25-acre commercial and residential complex, was created from the Hudson River. Using dirt and rubble excavated during the construction of several major projects during the 1970's and 1980s, including the World Trade Center, the planned community of Battery Park City became the largest real estate development ever constructed in New York City. It now is home of a variety of spaciously designed condominiums and has become an intrigal part of the Manhattan real estate market.
The neighborhood is named after the adjacent Battery Park, which has also given inspiration to the beautiful system of greenspaces, bikeways, playgrounds, jogging paths and promenades which extend throughout Battery Park City and its apartment and condo complexes. The peaceful waterside community offers a nice alternative to living outside the Big Apple. It is an urban oasis with beautiful views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty, and is an excellent neighborhood for those seeking a to buy a condo in a more quiet area of Manhattan, while still staying close to the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Battery Park City offers a wide array of condos and apartments at reasonable prices. It is still a growing neighborhood, which continues to increase in popularity. To encourage people to move back to the area after 9/11, the federal government has been offering rent subsidies to prospective tenants. Now it is only a matter of time before this community of one of the most sought after residential areas in New York City. |
